Customer Minsk department of the Belarusian railway is situated at the cross of main transport flows from Russia to Baltic States and Western Europe. Every day about 200 thousand people start their way at 67 stations and 125 halting point of the Belarusian railway. It is about 40% of the Republic’s passenger traffic. Task Minsk department of the Belarusian railway needed an information portal to function as information site for the Internet users and intra- corporate portal. They needed an information site to make railway exploitation more attractive and provide the Internet users with relevant information about train schedule, expeditory services of the department and rail transportation news. For maximum convenience of the site users, they were allowed to budget the minimal time of trip or portage to the final destination taking transshipment into account by themselves. Intra-corporate portal was to become a document repository. It was to contain regulations, instruction and reports of subdivisions. Information access was to depend on the employee’s position. The Andersen solution The Andersen specialists held a number of meetings with the customer’s representatives to collect requirements to the future portal functions. It should be noted that the majority of the client’s employees had little knowledge about IT, which took the Andersen Company additional efforts to comply with the quality requirements at the stated time and predetermined particularities of portal development. It involved frequent changes in requirements to the functions and simple user interface. It took us 6 months to implement the project. Within this period of time our specialists not only developed the portal but also installed hard- and software, released site in the Internet, trained the IT-department specialists in software support. Projects results The client got an information portal which met all his requests. The portal raised awareness of passengers about railway services and allowed to reduce duties of phone operators thanks to placing vital information about train traffic and ticket prices. The employees of the company got a chance to learn the latest news of the department and the regulations and reports of subdivisions on a real-time basis.
